Job purpose:

Here at Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult we are focused on bringing compound semiconductor applications to life in three key areas: the road to Net Zero, future telecoms and intelligent sensing.

We are a Not for Profit organisation based in South Wales.  We focus on three technology areas: Power Electronics, RF & Microwave and Photonics and have an Advanced Packaging team for these high-power innovations.

Our Engineers have different focuses and we have outlined the 2 key specialisms that we would be looking for. If you have the experience specified in any one of the below roles please send in your CV indicating which you are applying for. 

 

Electrical Engineer specialist in Electromagnetic Modelling & Simulations

  • Numerical modelling (Finite Element, Method of Moments) and optimization of electromagnetic and semiconductor devices and PCBs.
  • Electric circuits simulation (Pspice, SABER, SIMetrix).
  • Extensive knowledge of the following modelling tools: ANSYS ELECTRONICS DESKTOP, SIwave, COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS, SolidWorks, MATLAB.
  • Experience in designing magnetic components for power electronics converters.
  • Experience in performing magnetic field measurements (Hall Probe, rotating coils).
  • Experience in operating B-H Analysers and Impedance Analysers /Frequency Response Analysers.
  • Experience in modelling multi-physics coupled problems such as thermal and electromagnetic modelling of semiconductor devices.

 

 

Power Electronics Engineer specialist in Thermal Reliability & Thermal Characterization of Semiconductor Devices

  • Experience in packaged SiC/GaN devices thermal characterisation.
  • Experience in performing Rth data processing and extracting Junction to case thermal model.
  • Familiar with JEDEC standard JESD51-14
  • Experience in using MicRed Power Tester 1500A & PWT 2400A or similar devices.
  • Experience in performing Lifetime testing.
  • Experience in performing environmental tests: vibration, thermal and mechanical shock
  • Experience in creating electrical models of power devices.
  • Experience in using circuit simulation software, e.g. PLECS/SIMetrix for mixed electrical-thermal simulation.
  • Understanding practicalities of high-power devices.
  • Understanding noise immunity, grounding, electrostatic discharge handling and oscilloscope Probing techniques.
  • Knowledge of degradation mechanisms in power modules and SiC/GaN transistors.

  • Up to £50,000 salary (FTE)
